Iron deficiency anemia and related Libyan pregnant and non-pregnant women

Anemia is a significant public health problem worldwide, especially in developing countries, leading to mortality and morbidity in women and children. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a decrease in the concentration of red blood cells, or hemoglobin, in the blood. Anemia may cause low birth weight and premature birth, and increase the risk of maternal mortality due to bleeding and other delivery complications. However, Iron deficiency is a very common cause of anemia in women all over the world. Therefore, our primary objective is to compare iron levels between pregnant and non-pregnant Libyan women’s. The data for this study were collected from medical records from different medical centers in Tripoli Libya, including Noor Libya Clinic, Al-Sarai Clinic and Al-Sharq Clinic. The ferritin level was measured for both groups and compared using appropriate statistical tests, and a p value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant, it was found that 73% of pregnant women experienced iron deficiency anemia. Out of this, 56.6%, of the non-pregnant participants reported not having the condition
